Hi, I'm James.
I help schools get even better at what they do, so that all young people can develop the knowledge, skills, habits and confidence they need to live full and fulfilling lives.
Most of my work boils down to two key insights:

-
Implementation is the biggest lever we have. Schools are not short of good ideas. What's hard is making them stick. Getting that right does more for young people than anything else I know.
-
There is more to human development than learning about subjects. Alongside a knowledge-rich curriculum, young people need the time and space to discover who they are, follow their interests and work out what kind of life they want to lead.

A few places to start, depending on what brings you here:
I'm also interested in the bigger picture - how we might reform the education system, and strengthen our democracy, so that more people can thrive and enjoy this crazy existence of ours.
I'm a former teacher and school leader, an author and a government adviser. I have an MA in Person-Centred Education from Sussex and a PhD in Self-Regulated Learning from Cambridge. I've also written and performed in four rock musicals. So far :)
